Chosen Warriors Update 3 - first six finished

Just as the title suggests, the first six of my chaos space marines converted to fantasy Chosen for Chaos Warriors of the Dark Gods are now complete.

I am really happy with how they turned out and I hope to get this unit to about 12 in the coming months.  Next will be the Fallen and some suitably infected barbarians.

Chosen Warrior Update 2

This is the second update of my conversion of 40k Nurgle Marines and Terminators into the Old World and the 9th Age.  The first instalment is here.

Unlike most times where I simply rank up my minis and do what comes to mind, I decided to do a test miniature.

I mostly followed the nurgle paint scheme in the 40k conquest using the following colours over a tamiya dark green base coat.

Armour: Death guard green, Agrax earthshade and then back to death guard green for highlights.
Weapons and chain mail: leadbelcher and agrax shade leadbelcher again for highlights.
Horns: rakarth flesh, skull white and agrax shade. Highlight with skull white.
Tentacles: bug man glow, tentacle pink, drucii violet wash.
Armour trim: retributor armour and agrax wash with a final highlight with retributor and a tiny bit of mithril silver from Vallejo.

As you can see most sections use the agrax shade which means painting is pretty speedy before highlights.

This is the final product which I am extremely happy with.

To fit it with my existing Chaos warriors of the Dark Gods minis, the bases will be sanded with brown  paint and a little flock.

Below is also the next five bros who have been washed and are now basically ready for the highlights  and finishing touches.

The champion is the one without the helmet and his skin is is similar to the horns paint scheme with a bit of pale flesh from Vallejo thrown in.

Finally, this is my first terminator I have converted into a Forsworn for the 9th Age. They are based on the 40 x 40 so the larger mini fits on well. The storm bolter was removed and replaced with a sword from the plastic ogre bull sprue.

Chosen Warriors

Time to change focus away from my now finished Infernal/ Chaos Dwarfs and work on some new (Chaos) Warriors of the Dark Gods.

These miniatures are the Nurgle chaos space marines from the 40k Conquest periodical.

All bar one of the six miniatures required conversion and include a range of weapon, arm and head swaps.

Most of the new bits come from chaos knights or warriors with the exception of the cloaks which come from the marauder, hunchback chaos warriors and the goblin wolf rider kit.

The capes may make ranking up a little difficult but the plan is to get around twelve of these bros to use a unit of chosen.

For the 9th Age the plan is to use them as Sloth or another suitable Nurgle esq type unit.

More Disciples of Lugar

After a concerted effort I finished the last six of my disciples. You can see the previous post here.

This brings my unit to twenty and ready for the full Infernal Dwarves book for the 9th Age.

These ones again use the Avatars of War not slayers and Lost Kingdom heads.

4,500 points

The game features a vengeance seeker charge the Titan which killed him and rushed across the board to take out the stone thrower and whip around to help my immortals who were charged by a block o dwarves.  The other citadel guard also came to their help with a flank charge.

One the other side the wolf riders chaffed and then died and the Flint lock bros ended being charged in the front and rear.

Dangerous terrain tests from the mortar were effective but it’s luck ran out when charged by the big flyer.

Secondary were one a piece but the combination of combi charges and magic buffs led to a 15 to 5 for me.

Overall, I learnt a lot from this game about the intricacies of multi unit combat and other rules - thanks Daryl.

The surging Titan went well this game but led to his death next game when I thought I could replicate his lone war machine hunting.

Harpies [135pts]: 5x Harpy

Raptor Chariot [205pts]

Dread Reaper [180pts]

Dread Reaper [180pts]

++ Total: [4,495pts] ++

Ok this was brutal- Titan tried to to the same as game one and took out a bolt thrower and was then slaughtered by a unit of buffed witches without swinging.

Wolf riders on the left held up the super unit of characters and cold one knights, alter and witches but this simply delayed the inevitable as the  immortals were charged and slaughtered.

One a side note a big Hail Mary flank charge by a depleted unit of flint locks on the cold ones led to a possible wipe out but of course our short legs could not catch those damn raptor riders.

I was left with the sword and board citadel guard but nothing else.

Result was 17 to 3 against me with Christian taking the secondary.

Game 3 Troy’s Beast Herds

A rather large river led to some poor deployment decisions as I left the flint locks and the artillery on the other side from the rest of my army.  The Flint locks and volcano cannon would not survive multiple beast charges including one from those awesome drunk centigors.

**Terrors of the Wild**
Cyclops (355pts)
Gortach (475pts)
*Ambush Units
350 + 177 = 527 (11%)

One the other side of the rover I kind of hemmed myself in and the Titan was confused about what to do so ended trying to block three chariots who decided to give him a heap of impact hits.

The big unit of long horns with the characters ended in combat with immortals which was a bit of a stalemate thanks to some of the worst dice rolling ever heard of by me.

Poor movement and deployment was the real winner here as Troy won 15 to my 5 with an easy secondary objective win to him.

Overall was a great day with a new list.  Overall I think I need my lord to be more powerful on offence as an all rounder so the onyx core should come back.  Wizard was good all day with lots of alchemy buffs and the hereditary spell very useful.

BSB did his job throughout and I think I will keep most of the infantry except the citadel with hws and replace them with some more slaves.  The immortals were good all day and I enjoyed using both artillery pieces- the Titan mortar excelled in game 1.

The hobgoblin rides did their job all day as chaff so they can stay.

Alas the Titan proved too tricky for me to use so next game will be my freshly painted Kadim incarnates.

Of course this all depends on the full army book which I hope will be an early holiday present from those fine folks at the 9th Age.
