Another five chaos cultists are finished for my Alpha Legion.
The paint scheme for the bros followed that in part 1.
The leader equipped the shot gun got a little more blue/ green befitting of his status within the hydra.
Next batch of cultists will include the heavy weapons.
With my Lord and Chosen finished it was time for some cheap bodies in the form of chaos cultists.
The cultists are from the Dark Vengeance box set. I have managed to pick up a few more so I will have 24 when the pile of shame is complete (cultists only).
My paint scheme was for as many dark and dirty browns and blacks with the only colour in the form of their piping (to match my Alpha Legion) and some cloth also in the colours of the hydra bros.
I also like how the power packs on their backs turned out using the same approach as the piping.
I used GW and Vallejo paints for these and am happy how their dirty clothes and gear contrast with the power armour of my Alpha Legion dudes in their power amour.
The hydra continues to grow with a Chaos Space Marine Lord finished to lead my legion.
Again this mini came from the Dark imperium set from a few years ago like my previous dudes posted.
The backpack came from a plague marine that I always thought looked cool with its speaker. In my mind it’s got “Realm of Chaos” from Bolt thrower on a continuous loop.
The skull on the base comes from heroquest the best gateway drug GW ever produced,
Next up on the painting table will be 24 cultists.
With my paint scheme worked out as detailed in the previous post I have managed to finish the remainder of the chosen unit.
I decided to add in more neon green to these bros to reflect the mysterious nature of the legion.
After a long time between 40k drinks I have jumped back onto (or is it off) the grim dark wagon and have started an Alpha Legion force.
The minis come from the dark imperium box set and include chosen chaos space marines and cultists - perfect for the sneakiest and most manipulative faction in 40k.
First minis are below.
Painting was a challenge to get that classic blue green if the Alpha Legion. After a bit of trial and error I settled on the following:
Cloth and Armour trim
Armour
Visors and random cables
Tentacles
Had a great day taking the hobgoblins to my first WAP tournament.
My list had two heavy cavalry units with another two units of Tarkans to set scenery and war machines on fire. Two bolt throwers, a giant, a war wagon and three blocks of infantry rounded out the list. The natural choice to lead the horde of as the mighty Ghazrak Khan and his untrustworthy bro Oglah Khan second in command.
With little practice it was as always gonna be tough but three great opponents, two losses and a win and finally taking home the award for sports made for a great day.
Game 1 loss vs samurai themed wood elves
So much shooting meant my cavalry struggled to get across the board. Had fun setting the forests on fire though.
Game 2 win vs dwarfs
This one was gonna be a struggle with the lord occupying the high ground and a heap of war machines. My cav managed to get across and wipe out the war machines with my opponent very unlucky with his lord’s unit panicking.
Game 3 loss vs skarsnik and his gobbos
It was the greenskin civil war with again my cav units struggling to survive after taking out the car at machines in my right flank. Although we managed toto cross the board, heavy magic and shooting took their toll. It was the watchtower so at least I got to set it on fire.
Lessons learnt
Need to get some magic resistance and shooting protection for the cav units and be in combat from turn 2.
Enjoyed using the war wagon although it was not very effective.
Bolt throwers are fun but lower your expectations on return.
Would love WAP to include units of the rhinox battle fortress.
