Ballistus Dreadnought

My last space marine to be painted from the Leviathan box is the mighty Ballistus Dreadnought.

The colour scheme was inspired by my recent finishing of the Deathwing Sternguard Veterans. I liked the finish of their bone white armour and gold trim so copied the scheme it for the dreadnought.

Weapons followed the same scheme of the vets with black and boltgun metal/ silver the dominant colours.

Despite my initial dislike of the off centre pose and long legs, the dreadnought has grown on me.

Here is the full leviathan marine side finished.

With the leviathan marines finished, it’s time to finish some more Alpha Legion until my next delivery of  marines from the imperium periodical arrive.

Apothecary Biologis

My descent into heretical paint jobs continues with my second last space marine mini from the leviathan box set, the mighty Apothecary Biologis.

Unlike almost every other painted version of this bro I decided he was going to have red power armour with Dark Angel trim on the left shoulder pad and lots of gold trim similar to my recent Sternguard veterans.

For the first time I tried a bit of slap chop with a black undercoat and then dry brush bolt gun metal followed by white. For the power armour I used red speed paint and highlights with lighter reds.

The rest of the colours also relied on speed paints with various lighter highlights.

A happy coincidence is the three main colours of this dude represent the colours of my regular opponents being blood angels and ultramarines.

Phobos Lieutenant

Another finished mini from the Leviathan box set - the Phobos Lieutenant.

I followed my usual Dark Angel paint scheme trialed with the Infernus Marine.

As usual with these push fit bros assembly was straightforward with the only issue being that I snapped off the antenna on the side of his head. A replacement came from a cut down paper clip.

I also kept the dead tyranid colours used on my Terminator Captain.

I only noticed after I had taken the pics above that the knee cap transfer needed to be straightened so here it is replaced.

Deathwing Captains

Next up for the Dark Angels is a Captain in Gravis Armour and a Primaris Captain.

The Gravis bro is an easy conversion with a hooded head and and a banner for the old veteran plastic kit.

The power armour Captain is from warhammer imperium issue 5 with a head swap from the (I think) eliminators kit. I dig this head and gives him a cool Dr Doom look.

Painting of these dudes followed my recent colours with GW contrast skeleton horde over a white undercoat.

Power weapons used speed paints over a leadbelcher undercoat.

I don’t have any experience with them on the tabletop but in the interim they will join my ever growing Deathwing force.

Deathwing Sternguard Veterans Part 2

After being happy with my first two Deathwing Sternguard Veterans it was time to finish off the last three.

Again it was time for heresy as I kept the gold helmets and armour trim throughout these dudes.

I used the same recipe of paints from part 1 with the minimal use of red compared to my other Dark Angels.

Here is the finished unit.

Next on the painting table will be the remaining characters and dreadnought from the Leviathan box.

Deathwing Sternguard Veterans Part 1

The war against the plastic krak from the Leviathan box continues with the Sternguard Veterans next on the painting table.

Given their veteran status it was obvious they would be painted as members of the Deathwing for my Dark Angels.

I wanted these bros to be a little different to my Terminators and Bladeguard Veterans so their power armour is a little more bone and less white than those bros. I also added gold trim and for something different, gold helmets.

The weapons were also kept black and metal colour unlike the red, black and metal of my other dark angels.

Three more to do to finish off the unit.

Infernus Marines Part 3

Despite many challenges thanks to noncooperative transfers I have finished the last three of the infernus marines from the Leviathan box set.

On a couple of the bros I used some slightly larger transfers on the right shoulder but apart from that kept the same approach as the other bros.

Am really happy with this unit and am looking forward to giving them a run in my next game of 40K 10th edition.

Here is the full ten man unit.

Infernus Marines Part 2

After being happy with my Infernus Marine test mini it was time to paint more of his mates.
Painting followed the test mini with the exception that I used the GW purple contrast paint for a slightly darker colour for the end of the barrel.
I really liked the sculpt of the sarge with the combat knife and the grenade thrower so I made them both. Rules wise I probably will run a unit of ten so this should not be a problem.

I wanted to have as many bald heads as possible so went into my Dark Angels bits box for various options. For the helmeted bros I went for a yellow/ red approach for the eye sockets to match the flames from their weapon.

I also like the over size Dark Angel chapter emblems to fill up their left shoulder pads.

Only three to go and the ten man unit will be ready to burn for the Emperor.

Infernus Marine Test Mini

The battle against the plastic krak of the leviathan box set continues with the Infernus Marines.

Unlike my usual approach to painting of all in to win, I decided to start with a test mini.

After a few google searches I wanted some extra colour so decided on the gold trim for these infantry bros over a black undercoat. Highlights from above used leadbelcher followed by a heavy dry brush of white (again using make up brushes).

My usual green speed paint and the following colours and my man was ready.

The barrel of the pyreblaster has a blended wash of earthshax up to a purple wash, again stolen from various YouTube tutorials. This is probably my fave part of the finished paint job as I had never tried this before and am stoked with the outcome.

I will paint in combat squad batches to keep things moving.

In between painting this bro I also finished the teleport homer from the leviathan box - although small it still counts as one mini painted for my 2023 tally. I tried a bit of object source lighting for the homer user a light blue speed paint.

Deathwing Librarian in Terminator Armour

Thanks to the leviathan box set I now have a Librarian in Terminator armour.

No conversions were necessary as this is an easy to assemble great looking miniature.

Painting followed my previous Deathwing Terminators with some extra highlights befitting his status. These are the paints I used.

Inspired by the box paint job, I wanted to try and highlight the glowing runes. Speed paint plasmatic blue was perfect for the job and I also used this paint over the open hand.

No idea how he will go in a game but I am extremely happy with how he turned out.
