I picked up this mean machine secondhand and it was painted in a light red red with a legionary in a clearly khorne helmet, some chaos armour and spikes, and the head of an unfortunate imperial guardsmen.
I decided it was time to try the “transition effect" (or "Omegon's Wrath"). To achieve this I used my chrome paint over the soon to be Alpha Legion sections that were then hit with GW kroxigor scales. To get the transition effect, I used an air brush white between the two colours. Over the white I used GW gunmetal air paint.
I used a thin paint brush and in sections that were too big or messy, the key colours of the tank were used to even the effect lines up.
The khorne sections were then painted with a red speed paint and the trim was touched up with various golds. This came out a more favourable deeper shade of red than its first paint job.
I kept most of the original owner’s flame paint job on the back left hand side but added a little more red to the motif.
The lascannon power cables had a mix of nuclear and plasma speed paints to contrast with the other base colours.
The Alpha Legion sections had the metal trim painted in silvers and a few transfers were added to various panels.
If you look carefully you will see a Hydra logo over the original paint job that had the mighty words of Angron of “kill, maim, burn” painted on.
For a first go at the effect I am really happy how this turned out despite my shaky hands and hesitation of trying something outside of my safety net.
