Interceptor Sergeant

The latest addition for my Dark Angels is an inceptor sergeant. I did not have a flying stand so decided to use a marine who is being turned to chaos from an old chaos daemon kit.

I fixed the chaos marine to the base for stability and similarly drilled the Sarge into his neck/ shoulder.  This hid the marines face as apart from his left side of the body he looked too imperial for my liking.

I also added an old chaos space marine backpack and a few chaos transfers to ensure his allegiance to the dark gods is apparent.

The red power armour and pink/ purple tentacles completed the contrast with the green Dark Angels power armour.

The Sarge’s head is from the primaris upgrade kit which provides a heap of options I will be using for my  next bros.

I really like the finished mini as he looks like he is getting some good air off this filthy follower of the dark gods. As always he will be out front leading the charge.

Captain in Gravis Armour and Aggressors

Every army needs a leader and for my Dark Angels I have a Captain in Gravis Armour.

He is a beast in combat when armed with a power sword and his 4+ invulnerable save means he can avoid snipers from afar and when up close in melee.

Also finished is his bodyguard- six Aggressors. These bros are similarly beasts in combat with their flamestorm gauntlets burning the enemy.

Painting followed my usual approach with the captain getting more gold trim befitting his status.

The aggressors got some more silver trim than my usual troops with a combination of gun metal and stromhost silver.

The sarge also gets a silver helmet to stand out from the usual grunts.

Finally, here are the fattie boys all together.

Assault Intercessors

Another unit finished for the Dark Angels - the assault intercessors.

I enjoyed assembling and painting these bros. I mixed up the assembly to give me ten unique poses from the five odd versions in the kit.

This is as achieved by similar snipping off the arm to shoulder connections and gluing the alternative arm straight on.

Painting followed my other Dark Angels with an old Thraka green wash to darken up the power armour without losing all of the highlights.

I also took them for their first battle with their Blood Angel bros versus a combined Necron force.

Unfortunately, they were charged by some necron baddies who sliced them up in two turns.

We took down one before they fell with the remainder pummeled by my dreadnought in return. They will be back.

40k Deathwing Terminators

Another unit finished for my Dark Angels and this time it’s more big dudes - the deathwing terminators.

I made a conscious effort to get rid of any mould lines on them so if you see any they are weld lines from the ad mechs.

Painting started with a bone undercoat and agrax wash followed by building back up the bone colour on the terminator armour. Final highlights on the armour used a Vallejo white.

I tried to keep similar elements as my other Dark Angels such as the gold Aquila and red and green trimmings.

Looking forward to using them in a couple of weeks against necrons.

Primaris Inceptors

I have finished my first four primaris inceptors for my growing Dark Angels army.

Based on feedback I have darkened (pun intended) their green power armour compared my earlier bros who will similarly be darkened up.

Decals have been added with the sarge having a campaign symbol.

Next on the painting table will be some Deathwing terminators.

Dark Angels Librarians

With my Dark Angels army slowly expanding it is time for some characters.

I decided to focus on two of my favourite Primaris new (ish) librarian minis. As blue power armour is for ultramarines, I made the decision to keep the power armour dark angel green and any hoods, robes etc would be a dark blue.

Although the phobos armoured librarian is often painted camo style, I preferred the dark blue robes and hood. Who needs camo when you can melt the enemies brains.

The blue was achieved with the following paints over the leadbelcher base coat. Again I wanted the dark blues rather than the more often used lighter blue power armour of librarians.

I wanted to also keep a limited pallet of colours so kept the cables, books, belts etc a mix of reds and blues. The power swords were a mix of silvers and blues glazes.

Next on the painting table will be some first born marines from the dark vengeance box.

Dark Angels Dreadnought

With the addition of some Dark Angels transfers I have finished my first Dark Angels dreadnought.

Painting wise, I tried to keep the darker shades of green for this mighty beast of the lion.

Next will be finishing off my primaris marines with some transfers and a couple of psykers.

Dark Angels Intercessor Reinforcements

Despite the lack of transfers I have finished another seven primaris intercessor marines for my Dark Angels.

The sergeant will be out front leading the unit taking down the foes of the imperium.

I also painted on 3rd company markings on their knee pads.

With 14 now done I will take focus on my ten man assault intercessor squad.

How I Painted my Dark Angels

Thanks to my recent descent back in 40k I have also fallen back from plastic krak addiction wagon and purchased a Dark Angels army.

Most of my troops are primaris but I have managed to get my hands on some first born marines from the Dark Vengeance box set and some random other second hand bros.

Due to my shaky hands, fine edge highlighting will be out so my technique will rely on (very) dry brushing of high points along the edges of the power armour.

Step 1 uses the lead belcher spray as the undercoat.

Step 2 starts with the below speed and contrast paints.
I highly recommend the absolution green over the lead belcher as it gives an awesome finish.

I used gw contrast black in between some armour plates such as the back of the knees and the elbows. The reds are for the weapon and the gold for the chest eagle.

Step 3 is the highlights. The power armour has the two below greens from Vallejo. Note the final green is very light with emphasis on those high points and corners.  A little bit of a highlight on the chest eagle and the weapons with the silver. Not in the photo but I also use the gw leather contrast and a highlight on the pouches.

Step 4  are the paints used for the base along with some chaos black rocks.

Using this approach I now have my first seven sons of the lion (minus some transfers that will be added in the coming weeks).
