Reiver ATV

One of my favourite kits from this Primaris era is the mighty Reivers.

I made my Reivers to be part of my Ravenwing so decided for my third ATV to include some of the spare heads you get with the kit.

With all the Knights and Death Guard lists floating around at the moment I decided the mighty multi melta would be essential for when they get up close and personal with the enemy.

Painting followed my Outriders approach with the exception being the edge highlights were achieved using a round head make up brush. This came out really well with the Vallejo goblin green highlights looking the best out of my Ravenwing.

Much like my Reivers, I spent a bit of time on the skull helmet which I think came out well.

The usual approach of lots of transfers continued with some  trim achieved by the spiky strips on the side of the ATV courtesy of the Dark Angel transfer sheet from their upgrade kit.

Rules wise the ATV can’t join the Reivers like they can with an Outriders squad. However, in my current list I have this spare ATV so he will ride adjacent to his skull face bros.

More Outriders

My Ravenwing is nearing completion with another three Outriders.

I wanted these to match my second unit so went with a mix of helmet less heads from various kits. I also converted the sarge version into a standard Outrider by removing the heavy bolt pistol and converted the hand to be wielding a chainsword.

Painting followed the usual approach but I went a little harder on the grey dry brush, black speed paint and second grey dry brush.

The list I have run has two 6 man units of Outriders and a 6 man unit of Black Knights. Each has at least a character or the Ravenwing command squad. The three bike units hit hard but the counter strike needs to be considered.

I like to have my Reivers and Darkshroud ready to back up the furious charge.

Arabyonnians/ Bretonnian Exiles

As I dipping my toe back to in the Old World it was time to finish off the Arabyonnians who I will run as Bretonnian Exiles.

First up is my Baron who received an extra axe as he is wielding the frontier axe in the list I am currently running.

His horse is an old GW Bretonnian horse to differentiate him from the other knights.

My Green Genie aka the Green Knight is an old metal reaper mini updated to match the colour scheme of the never bros.

I also finished my Knights on foot with great weapons. These are old Black tree design Saracen bros I have been wanting to finish.

The final new bros are black tree design warriors of Islam with crossbows who I run as Border Princes Brigands.

I have had two test games and as usual the mounted knights hit like a sledgehammer but am yet to give the foot knights a real challenge. Brigands were pretty good in both shooting and can take a charge from smaller units in combat.

More games to come.

Primaris Lieutenant in Reiver Armour

With an extra lieutenant body left over from the imperium magazines I decided it was time I made my own version to lead my Reivers.

The conversion was pretty easy with the Reiver kit supplying the head, heavy bolt pistol arm, knife wielding arm and a couple of extra pouches and a purity seal.

I wanted him to be a bit of a throw back to lieutenants of old so he got a back banner too.  This one also had a purity seal.

The left shoulder pad came from the Dark Angels upgrade kit.

Although he already has the obligatory tactical rock I built this up further with extra cork.

Painting followed the same approach as the Reivers with a little extra silver befitting of his status.  The skull mask is a standout feature so I took a bit of extra time on this with a skeleton speed paint followed by lighter highlights of bone to white.

The base used the GW Stirling mud as a base followed by various browns up to a bone for highlights. A couple of tuffs of static grass and green were added. The rocks were painted black and dark grey highlights.

The right should pad had the obligatory Ravenwing symbol whilst the banner got a larger version of the skull in a yellow circle. I used a smaller version on my ATVs so it will fit for this bro.

My plan for him will be to lead the Reivers supported by the Invictus Warsuit. They will scout ahead and take the mid board objectives whilst scaring the foe.

Ravenwing Command Squad

After giving my Chaplain on bike a bit of a glow up I decided to finish off my Ravenwing Command Squad.

Although I expect these minis to be updated in the next few years, my current Ravenwing army list has these bros leading a unit of Outriders so it was time to paint them up.

I tried a few different schemes compared to how most paint them up including the apothecary being more grey and black than white as he is usually painted.

The use of black speed paint over white power armour came out a bit like comic book painting style I have seen a few people use for space marines.

Similarly I painted the Ancient’s banner with a black sun unlike most who go for the red / yellow sun.
I added a variety of transfers over various sections of the banner as I reckon this turns out better than my attempts at free hand.

As they are usually on smaller bases I decided to use the larger outrider bases with cork to also lift their height.

Am happy with how these bros turned out so am looking forward to give them a run in the next few weeks.

Ravenwing Chaplain Conversion Redux

This is a repost from my earlier version of this mini.

Not only was he was on the wrong size base, I was never happy with the paint job so after rebasing I got to work to tidying up the paint job. Particular focus was the red in the underside of the cloak and the finish of the power armour. I also tidied up a heap of the green highlights and am now happy so here is the old blog post with updated pictures.

As my Ravenwing force grows I decided they needed a chaplain to lead them into their most secret of missions.

Going through my pile of shame I came across the Ravenwing sergeant from the 6/7th edition box set.  I always liked this mini so decided he would be suitable for the chaplain.

The conversion was pretty easy with an exchange of the back pack to a skull version from the veterans box. The chainsword and forearm were removed and replaced with a cool looking power club and a winged skull also from the veterans box to create a unique Crozuis Arcanum.

The book on the front of the bike also came from the extras in the veterans box with a couple of transfers.

The converted Crozuis Arcanum.

The “writing” on the scroll for the back came from a couple of different transfer sheets and came out pretty cool.

Although not play tested, my thought was this bro would lead a maxxed out Outrider unit with an ATV and smite the foes of the Emperor.

Dark Angels Desolation Squad

Grab your nerf guns and your Bob Dylan albums because it’s time for a Dark Angels Desolation Squad.

Despite my initial thoughts on these bros they have come to grow on me and I managed to pick up an assembled squad off marketplace.

Unlike most of my previous greenwing Dark Angles I started with a black base coat and then drybrushed grey and white. This was followed by a green speed paint and then highlights of various greens. The gold trim followed this approach with a gold speed paint and then gold and silver highlights.

The paints I used in the approach above are below.

I am most happy with how the eye lenses came out using the below paints including the plasma red paint that I have just started using.

The base includes some old cork that was painted with black speed paint and then highlighted with the same paints I used for the base over GW astrotragranite.

Like most of my purchases I don’t know how they will go on the battlefield but am looking forward to giving them a go.
