Heavy Intercessors

After a recent Tournament I decided my Inner circle taskforce for my Deathwing needed their own battleline intercessors. These intercessors will take the battlefield with the appropriate bone white colour scheme.

I picked up some alternate intercessor sculpts compared to those in my Greenwing Dark Angels so decided these bros would be heavy intercessors. I added the larger should pads where possible to differentiate them from normal intercessors. The larger bolt rifles also complements the “counts as” approach.

I picked them up second hand and they needed to have the house paint that was used to undercoat them stripped off.

Unfortunately this paint left a little “battle damage” on a few of the minis. On a couple of them this was remedied with some additional bits from the upgrade kit and transfers to hide the worst of it.

Using a heavy bolter from the centurion kit I converted one of the bolt rifles into a heavy bolter. A little bit of green stuff and he was ready. I added a cool deathwing bit for a blast screen that also hid the left hand that I was not happy with.

As I will also be using my Sternguard Veterans as heavy intercessors from time to time, the painting generally followed their approach for a more bone rather than pure white colour for power armour.

With these dudes finished I am pleased to report I have finished all my Deathwing minis from the pile of shame.

Next up is my push to finish my Ravenwing including my heretical approach that includes infantry.

Supreme Grand Master Azrael

I finally got my hands on an Azrael miniature for my Dark Angels.

As a member of the Deathwing I decided to invert the usual painting approach of Azrael of his dark green armour and white/bone cloak.

The deathwing paint job of the armour went with more of a bone colour rather than pure white similar to my Sternguard Veterans.

The banner was pretty tricky to paint and I also inverted the usual colour approach with this and made it primarily a bone white colour with gold trim.

I kept the colour selection limited and really liked how the red came out on the lower cloak using a base of white, red speed paint and then mephiston red to highlight.

The sword of secrets had a gun metal speed paint with a white highlight followed by light blue speed paint in some of the areas. I left some of the white highlights to give off a pretty cool combined look for a plasma sword.

The base had a mix of rocks, grass tuffs and some barbed wire for something different.

Despite the mini being from a less reputable source I am happy with the finish.

Deathwing Centurion Devastator Squad

After making my Primaris Assault Centurion squad I wanted to also have a squad of the Devastator Centurions.

I chose the lascannon fit out as after all these years it’s still my favourite heavy weapon.

I used the same approach to build as detailed in my how to post that was a pretty easy way to increase the size of the bros up to primaris size. I made the sarge a little taller than the other bros and used the Mohawk bit from the original kit.

All the heads are from the primaris lieutenant kit.

Painting followed my Sternguard Veterans approach which had more of a bone white colour. Finishing off was a heap of transfers and the bases using old bark as rocks and astrogranite textured paint.

Here is a size comparison next to a primaris marine.

Deathwing Primaris Centurions

With my recent conversion to create Primaris Centurions it was time to get some paint on these bad boys.

I wanted these dudes to have a more bone rather than a clean white colour for their armour similar to my Sternguard Veterans.

Painting the armour started with Vallejo bone and normal white and then a GW bone contrast paint. This came out a bit too dark so I used the GW white air paint followed by Vallejo white for highlights.

Gold speed paint and Vallejo gold was used for the armour trim. Gunmetal speed paint and metal was then used for highlights.

The cables used blue and red speed paints with various lighter colours to highlight.
Basing used astogranite with a heap of old small GW slate pieces with some bark for rocks.  The astrogranite was painted with Vallejo earth, then bestial brown and leather with a few light dry brushing of bone white. The rocks were black speed paints with bone highlights.

I am a big fan of the transfer sheet in the new primaris upgrade kit so went a bit nuts with as many as I could fit on without them looking like a nascar driver.

I am very happy with the finished result as these dudes are now the size befitting of their stat line and weapons.

Ballistus Dreadnought [140pts]

Land Raider [240pts

++ Total: [1,995pts] ++

First game against knights was a brutal affair but I managed to take down one big boy.

I had set up a beast of a charge with a reroll of the captain, ancient and a squad of termies but of course I failed twice. Lessons learnt is if I get in melee with knights they do fall.

Game 2 against Angry Ron and his world eaters with a Lord of Skulls. Ronnie boy got into the landraider with an advance and charge on turn 1! It did not go well but cap and his termie did take out lord of skulls who was parked on what became by vowed objective.

Game 3 was more knights with a couple of assassins. I was in with a chance on this game taking early points but the big guns of the knights took out my assets as I focused on killing rather than objectives.

Great friendly to get a feel for the Deathwing. I will tweak my list to capture those objectives.

I will drop the librarian and one unit of termies and add in Azrael and my new primaris size centurions I have converted. I was a little disappointed with the stern guard vets but they are one my favourite minis so am playing around with options.

One of the best performers was the chaplain with the assault terminators. Despite poor dice rolling on my behalf throughly the day, they always delivered some brutal outcomes.

Ballistus Dreadnought

My last space marine to be painted from the Leviathan box is the mighty Ballistus Dreadnought.

The colour scheme was inspired by my recent finishing of the Deathwing Sternguard Veterans. I liked the finish of their bone white armour and gold trim so copied the scheme it for the dreadnought.

Weapons followed the same scheme of the vets with black and boltgun metal/ silver the dominant colours.

Despite my initial dislike of the off centre pose and long legs, the dreadnought has grown on me.

Here is the full leviathan marine side finished.

With the leviathan marines finished, it’s time to finish some more Alpha Legion until my next delivery of  marines from the imperium periodical arrive.
