And even more Alpha Legion Cultists

 In preparation for the release of 40K 11th edition my goal is to finish painting all my current chaos space marines and have the mighty Alpha Legion ready to take on all comers.

With these nine bros finished I now have about 30 ready for close range combat.

Painting for these dudes followed the approach of my other Cultists that included as many dirty browns and leathers across the cloth material as I could find.

Some of the various browns were achieved with brown speedpaints and highlights of Vallejo leather brown and off whites. The dude in the full body cloak came out really well so I tried this approach across a few other guys who had larger panels of leather.

I also wanted the skin tones to reflect that these bros don’t have the intestinal fortitude to resist the whispers of the dark gods. To achieve this, the skin started with crusader skin speed paint and highlights of pale flesh. I added extra watered down washes of various browns, purples and sepia to mix up the skin tones.

Game wise, the Cultist’s job is to infiltrate, take objectives and then die- it’s a tough gig in pursuit of the goals of the Alpha Legion. I used two units of 10 in my last two game tournament and that’s exactly what they did.

Next up for the Hydra will be some chaos bikers that have always been one of my favourite units in 40K.

More cultist reinforcements

Keeping the Alpha Legion project going this week includes another 11 cultists.

Painting followed the approach in my first Cultists post with the only change being the blue painted to match my current approac (noting I had already updated the blue on the older dudes too).

Although the range of sculpts is a bit limited compared to the current multi part kit, I always loved the chaos range from the dark imperium set so when I saw some reinforcements going cheap I scooped them up.

Here are the 11 hanging out with their earlier painted mates.

Chaos Cultists 40K Part 4

 The final six cultists are now complete.

I tried some different shades of browns with the Vallejo hardened leather contrast paint but wanted to keep the hive scum dirty browns and blacks dominant.

Some odd splashes of Alpha Legion blue green here and there and the hydra has six more lost souls.

With this six that’s 24 in total ready to spread the word of Alpharius.

Chaos Cultists 40K Part 3

 More cultists for the hydra using a little more blue green on a few minis.

Paint scheme follows that from Part 1.

Contrast paints and dirty browns are really giving these bros the proper grim dark wargear for those who follow the ruinous gods with the blue a nod to where their allegiance truly lies.

Chaos Cultists 40K Part 2

 Another five chaos cultists are finished for my Alpha Legion.

The paint scheme for the bros followed that in part 1.

The leader equipped the shot gun got a little more blue/ green befitting of his status within the hydra.

Next batch of cultists will include the heavy weapons.

Chaos Cultists 40k

 With my Lord and Chosen finished it was time for some cheap bodies in the form of chaos cultists.

The cultists are from the Dark Vengeance box set. I have managed to pick up a few more so I will have 24 when the pile of shame is complete (cultists only).

My paint scheme was for as many dark and dirty browns and blacks with the only colour in the form of their piping (to match my Alpha Legion) and some cloth also in the colours of the hydra bros.

I also like how the power packs on their backs turned out using the same approach as the piping.

I used GW and Vallejo paints for these and am happy how their dirty clothes and gear contrast with the power armour of my Alpha Legion dudes in their power amour.
