Dragon Ogres

After having these old school metal dragon ogres for at least twenty years, my return to the Old World inspired me to get some paint on these bad boys.

Painting was made easier with the original black undercoat and some red that was hit with a white over coat.

I wanted these dudes to match my old school dragon ogre shaggoth who had the red skin inspired by a similar painted one in an old white dwarf.

These are the paints I used for the skin. After the wash I again highlighted again the wildrider red.

Leathers were various browns and the metal used various shades again hit all was hit the earthshade.

I have used them in two games and they were very useful so now they are painted up they will feature in most of my Warriors of Chaos armies.

Here they are next to their big brother Shaggoth. He needs to be rebased but I reckon they look awesome together.

Hobgoblin Lords

With a WAP games day coming up I decided it was as time to repaint a couple of legendary Hobgoblin Lord minis. The plan was to build a suitable ride for our beloved leader the Great Hobgoglah Khan and to add another hero to “help” rule the steppe.

Painting used a variety of speed and contrast paints over a white undercoat.

My favourite piece is a 3d printed wolf that I have built a howdah out of shields and insulation strips for the “fabric” on the sides of the wolf.

As this is the personal ride of the Great khan his barded wolf has a couple of GW skeleton spear added to represent the additional save and status of its rider.

The wolf rider lord is one of my favourite minis and he will be out front leading his unit.

No idea who this old school WAP list will go tomorrow but I am sure fun will be had by all.

Chaos Lord of Nurgle

With less than a week before a 2000 point WAP tournament, I have finished this Lord of Nurgle to lead my Death Guard Warriors of Chaos.

The model uses parts of the Lord Felthius with a suitably Nurgle head swap.

The weapon is a black orc axe with the orc symbols hacked off. As I will be using this bro as Valnir the Reaper, I added the chain to represent his flail.

The left arm is a mix of a Nurgle mutation and a length of spiky mutation from a tzeentch kit.

Painting used death guard green with lots of brown and skin washes. The boils are a yellow green with red base. Since I liked how the boils came out I used the same scheme for his “eye”.

I used a deep red on his cloak to differentiate him from the others in the army who tend to stick with leather and brown for their cloth.

As my death guard infantry are oversized tor their bases, I decided to put him on the column as the size of his terminator armour meant there was no way he was fitting on a 25mm base.

I am very happy with how he came out and as I have been unable to fit in any practice games I don’t know how we will go but at least he looks cool.

Pusgoyle Blightlords

Another unit for my Nurgle WAP army is finished - the mighty Pusgoyle Blightlords.

The minis all come from warhammer 40k death guard kits with additional ogre and orc bits.

For the Blightlords I did some head and weapon swaps to the bodies from the Lord Felthius and his Tainted Cohort set. The rot flies use the body of the blight hauler and the bloat drone “wings”.

I kept the exposed “flesh” the same pink and purple colours of the mutations as a contrast to the drab armour.

The Blightlords all use great weapons so one of them wields a double headed spikes club whilst the others were “great” enough to not need further conversion.

In game terms, the rot flies can fly rather slowly and I think this conversion fits in with a slow moving plague beast.

Painting involved lots of dirty washes and some oxide paint / detail. The boils are painted with yellow green from Vallejo over a red base.

I will use them as a flanking force backing up my units of infantry as at WAP tourney on May 20.  The army will be led by Valnir the Reaper who will be joined by his little buddy Festus.

Putrid Blightkings command group update

With a 1600 point WAP tournament coming up I decided I needed to add a command group to my existing blightkings.

Two bros volunteered for the task. The standard comes from the first edition warhammer nurgle palaquin that I had some bits of floating around.

The muso drum is from the old black orc plastic kit and fits in well. I had run out bells so a drum seemed appropriate for these walking behemoths.

Here’s the full unit together - I have squeezed in a unit of five for the tournament rocking the festering shroud.

Hobgoblin Tournament reinforcements finished

With a final push the remaining 12 hand weapon and shield hobgoblins are now finished.

Again I have a couple of multi based dudes to allow for quick removal of the expected casualties.

And with that the unit is 38 strong and ready for tournament battle in just over a week.

Hobgoblin hand weapon and shield reinforcements

With my first WAP tournament scheduled for May 22, I need to finish some hand weapon and shield hobgoblins for my 38 strong unit.

Thankfully I still have more of the 3d printed bros that were scheduled originally to be armed with halberds. I had converted about 20 of the halberd armed dudes so it was a tough decision to change these conversions.

However, I am happy with the final product as the cut down halberds provide difference between the standard poses of the sculpts. These dudes also have a mix of shields including the mongol fireforge minis to match those on my other hobgoblins they will be joining.

As I don’t expect them to last too long in a battle I will have approx 16 dudes on multi bases. This will speed up the removal of casualties.

Here is the work in progress unit with another 12 on the painting table.

Hobgoblin spear reinforcements

With two weeks until my first WAP tournament the rush is on the finish the needed hobgoblins for my 39 man (?) spear and 38 hand weapon and shield bros.

Using the fabelzel bros I have converted up the 12 hobgoblins I needed to finish the unit.

The spears mainly came from the old GW goblin wolf riders and some old skeletons plastics.

Here is the finished unit.
