Big Hat Chaos/ Infernal Dwarves Characters

2019 was the year I finally finished painting my chaos/ infernal army.  I lost count but I think I would have painted close to a hundred miniatures for this army in 2019 alone.

I was never fully happy with the rider on my great bull- the rider was a conversion of the old GW bull centaur hero that although I dug the mini I thought he looked a little uncomfortable on the mantic beast.  This week I managed to find the rider body and thanks to my last Lost Kingdom big hats I now have a new (original) rider.

The right arm came with the mini and has a suitable onyx core and the left arm I think came from an avatars of war not slayer. The original left arm from memory was holding a spell book but as I want this to be an Overlord a suitable chaos shield was necessary. The chaos star came from the nurgle rhino - that sprue keeps on giving for my armies.

The former rider fitted nicely on a 20mm base and since these bros fight a lot of beast herds, the base was finished with one of the GW basing extras kit from a while ago.  He will probably get a back banner too to fit in with most of the other characters that you can see below.

The flying characters.

The infantry characters.

Chosen Warriors and Sorcerer conversions finished

These are the finished chosen warriors with hand weapon and (mostly) shields.  These dudes will join the first six finished bros which I finished a while ago.

Also in these pics is the first of my great weapon bros - he’s the one with the big spiky weapon.

Also finished is my first character conversion. I will be using this dude as a sorcerer hence the smoky spell emerging from his right hand.

I am extremely happy with the finished project with the spell the appropriate mix of colours for those that follow the dark gods.  He has a little extra colour but I kept this at a minimum to be consistent with the dark colours of the other dudes.

All the miniatures are from the 40k Conquest periodical.

Finally, here is the full ten man unit. Ranking up is a little tricky but with some magnets and sheeting underneath they will stay in formation.

Next is the great weapon unit - you can see some of the conversions here.

More Chosen Warrior Conversions

I decided I needed some extra command miniatures so thanks to the 40k conquest set, I now have a new standard and musician.

The muso did not need too much conversion apart from a weapon swap and some trimming off some of the power back pack thing. The great bell and all the extra bells make him the perfect fit.  I might use these guys with the great weapon unit so I extended out his axe handle a little.

The standard bearer has a left hand and a standard pole from the old hunchback warriors with halberds box (metal). I used a bloodletter banner with a nurgle symbol stuck on top courtesy of the nurgle rhino upgrade sprue also from 40k conquest.

These guys are a little bigger than some of the marines so ranking will be tight.

Next up is a couple of extra bros - one with hand weapon in the form of a cool plague blade sword/ knife.  The right arm is from the beastmen kit of old.

The other dude has a great weapon conversion from a couple of kits and his original left arm with a shield added. I had to do a bit of a chop to his back so a cloak with some green stuff was added.  I also did a head swap from one of the other marine dudes that I had left lying around.

These guys will be added to the other dudes in the previous post on the painting assembly line over the next few weeks.

Chosen Warriors conversions

After a few weeks dedicated to finishing my sloth barbarians it was time to head back into conversions of more Chosen Warriors.

Usual mix of conversions from the GW great weapon pack, spare chaos knight and old hunchback warriors of old.

Painting will be same as the warriors in this post with a bit of extra effort for the sorcerer conversion and his smoky spell.

Nurgle Marauder Update 8

The final ten nurgle marauders are now complete taking the unit up to 25 completely finished.

I now have enough weapon options within the unit, colours and conversions to break up the look of the single pose minis.

Given the unit’s alignment to the dark gods, eliminating as much uniformity as possible  was my goal and I am extremely happy with the final result.

Here is the full 25 bro unit.

Barbarian/ Marauder Update 7

The big push is on with ten remaining barbarians to paint.

The current 15 finished rank up well and are below.

I feel I have a pretty solid painting method worked out and over an evening I have managed to get all base colours and washes done in preparation for highlights.

These guys are again a mix of weapon types, head swaps and a few different colours to break up the single pose nature of these dudes.

After I finish it will be some chosen warriors with great weapons and a new sorcerer. Again these bros will a bit of simple kit bash from the 40k conquest mags and the chaos warrior great weapon set.
