How I Painted my Dark Angels

Thanks to my recent descent back in 40k I have also fallen back from plastic krak addiction wagon and purchased a Dark Angels army.

Most of my troops are primaris but I have managed to get my hands on some first born marines from the Dark Vengeance box set and some random other second hand bros.

Due to my shaky hands, fine edge highlighting will be out so my technique will rely on (very) dry brushing of high points along the edges of the power armour.

Step 1 uses the lead belcher spray as the undercoat.

Step 2 starts with the below speed and contrast paints.
I highly recommend the absolution green over the lead belcher as it gives an awesome finish.

I used gw contrast black in between some armour plates such as the back of the knees and the elbows. The reds are for the weapon and the gold for the chest eagle.

Step 3 is the highlights. The power armour has the two below greens from Vallejo. Note the final green is very light with emphasis on those high points and corners.  A little bit of a highlight on the chest eagle and the weapons with the silver. Not in the photo but I also use the gw leather contrast and a highlight on the pouches.

Step 4  are the paints used for the base along with some chaos black rocks.

Using this approach I now have my first seven sons of the lion (minus some transfers that will be added in the coming weeks).
