Great War Battle Report

With the 100 year anniversary of the end of the Great War my friends and I decided to play an alternative history game.  We will be using late war lists from the warhammer historical Great War rules and a home made White Russian list.

The Russian conscripts would suffer from an animosity type rule with a roll of 1 resulting in a stop work meeting, 2-5 acting normal and 6 a ferocious rush of blood or vodka surging them on.

The game set up was pretty simple with the Germans occupying a village and a strategic rail line that would deliver the Russians from turn 2.  The French plan was to take the village as quickly as possibly before too many of the Russians arrived.

The French would be lead by this little guy.

In a roll off for the first turn the Germans won the advantage and would start the game.

The German High Command and artillery took advantage of the ruins at the back of the battle field with the infantry and a couple of the deadly hmgs deployed forward behind the low walls.

With approximately 1400 points on each side the French deployment was pretty congested.

The cavalry would not last two turns before the artillery and hmgs would wipe them out.

The right flank of French infantry and a FT17.

The left flank of French marines / veterans would be delayed throughout the game by the forest in front of them.
The St Chammond would assist and survive the game.

The first turn involved shots across the board but things heated up on turn 2 with the arrival of the Russian train and hmg.
The arrival of the Russians also resulted in a lucky conscript rifle shot that destroyed the FT17.

Turn 3 the German bombers took the central right buildings and destroyed the French infantry threatening.

Turn 3 also meant more Russians arriving by train including another field gun for the Hun.

The Russians from turn 2 also decided it was time for another stop work meeting to discuss payment that appeared to be late this month.
Another unit of French infantry decide turn 4 was the time to retake the ruins their bros lost. The st Chammond vehicle guns would assist.

The French also emerge in the centre to challenge the German tank.  They would not survive the crossfire of hmgs that greeted their courage in emerging from the safety of the ruins.

The Russian flank consolidates in the face of advancing French infantry.

A vastly outnumbered French infantry platoon fixes bayonets for the charge into the Russians.

The Russians hold their line and after two turns wipe out the French platoon.

After witnessing their platoons wiped out, the infantry command charge the German tank that had been disabled by an earlier charge from their now departed comrades.

This time the command find the proper place to fix their grenades and the tank is destroyed.

The command group consolidate into ruins close to the German deployment zone.

Over on the left flank the forest delayed the French veterans and the Germans controlled the cemetery ruins.

The Germans had already withstood two platoons emerging from the forest and the ruins next to it but the final platoon enticed an enemy platoon out.  The Germans suffered heavy casualties from the supporting hmg and Mark 5 tank fire before the last unit of veterans charged and routed the Germans.

With that last combat, the six turns were finished and although the French did not take the German village both armies suffered tremendous casualties with most infantry units (and the unfortunate French cavalry) wiped out.

A bloody stalemate was the result with no side gaining any new foothold on the table.

An excellent game with even better bros with the Russian list requiring a few tweaks but is fundamentally sound.

Lest we forget.

My favourite miniatures - Greater Daemon of Slaanesh

This is the first greater daemon of Slaanesh I remember being released and is one of my favourite minis of all time.

This range was not constricted by GW's current pg rating and captures the pleasure and pain aspect of the slaves to darkness era. I guess you could say this mini also pre dated the cisgender definition that we now use.

Paint job was done about ten years ago inspired by a 40k Slaanesh force in an old white dwarf.

Play style wise I used him/ her throughout 7th and 8th edition as a combo magic lord and combat monster before the times of end ruined the old world.  The combination of the old Slaanesh spells and a couple of nasty upgrades made him/ her hard to kill if I made it into combat but I have lost count of the number of times he/ she received cannon balls to the face.

SLAVER - Artisans context XXV entry and winner

The ever awesome chaos / infernal dwarf community comes together thanks to the mighty Chaos dwarfs online.

Apart from your one stop shop for all your big hat needs, it's the awesome competitions Thant really set this community ahead of most other hobby sites.

The most recent competition was artisan's XXV.

The theme was slaves so I took the opportunity to introduce the world to the heaviest and most brutal sub genre of heavy metal - Slave Metal \m/ \m/

And here it is from the plains of zharr I give you SLAVER.

The band comprises of the classic Goff Rockers from GW sourced from a recast mob as unfortunately the evil empire has ceased their production.

The drummer / slave master is a converted blood bowl blocker.

The crowd are plastic Orc boys from GW with hats provided by the old one pose plastic chaos dwarfs.

My entry is below which I am very thankful was voted as the winning entry.

The inspiration for my entry came after a few gin and tonics and some live manowar on YouTube.

Seeing the flags in the crowd made me think that even if I could source the band, I definitely needed some rabid fans and there is none more rabid than a mosh pit of green skins.

I even managed to sneak in some crowd surfing action with a couple of armed orcs.

The motto of Slaver is "other bands play we kill" which is a tribute to the kings of metal, manowar.

Had a blast making these dudes and I have already started on more orc fans for the band.

Next are some more random pics of the mighty SLAVER.

The best evil dwarf website on the planet presents (and with many thanks to Zanko) Artisan's Contest XXV.

Slaves and the obligatory slave driver is an awesome theme which I am sure will produce some amazing entries.

This contest always inspires me to add to my Infernal dwarves and this time I thought I would post a couple of teasers of my WIP entry.

Infernal engine and citadel guard with flintlock axe

Finally finished my second infernal engine. You can find pictures of my first with its custom death Rolla here.

This miniature is one of Forge World's finest so is a worthy edition to my favourite miniature collection.

In game terms I have only used the steam hammer version so am looking forward to my next game where I will see how the shrapnel guns go.

What made this mini easier to paint was a strong undercoat of a copper from tamaya that combined nicely with the Hashut copper (main colour) with mithrill silver (highlights) and a flesh wash I use.

Next up is another of the zonk miniatures that I have converted to be a citadel guard armed with a flintlock axe.

The halberd is from the tomb King chariot.

Onion head Warrior B finished

I have finally finished painting up this recast known as onion head Warrior B.

The original Warrior A and B (using both hands to hold their axes) had as far as I am aware a pretty short shelf life so it's fair to say most of them floating around are recasts of the originals.

The Warriors A and B tend to go for some over the top prices these days so my advice is be patient and don't pay more than $10 per mini.

Anyway, I was very lucky to get my hands on old onion head for a reasonable price and am very happy how he has turned out.

Warrior A and B were a little shorter than the original Perry brother's chaos dwarfs as demonstrated below. Despite their shorter size they break up for the mono pose of the other axe dudes in units.
